Tony is well recognized for his leadership roles as Chief Restructuring Officer and Financial Advisor. He founded and manages Shepherd Partners, Inc., a consulting firm dedicated to helping middle market or family-run companies in transition.
In his 25+ years as an advisor he has served as Chairman, Independent Director, Interim CEO or Chief Operating Officer of 15 companies and has been financial and operations advisor to dozens more. What makes this profession especially rewarding for him is making a meaningful difference every day for Shepherd’s clients, their investors, employees and others under very stressful circumstances. He immerses himself in projects as he guides private equity investors, lenders and borrowers across the USA in leadership, operations and restructuring.
Tony has been a Certified Turnaround Professional (‘CTP’) since 1999. In 2014, he received the ‘CTP of the Year Award’ and was recognized for the “Most Effective Turnaround for 2001” by the Midwest Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association for his work on a multi-state technology company. He has been published in The Secured Lender, The ABF Journal and The Journal of Corporate Renewal. Tony earned his MBA from Northwestern University and his undergraduate degree in Finance and Accounting from Southern Methodist University.
He began his career in commercial banking and the oil patch in Texas, managed new business and loan workout activities in Oil & Gas and Commercial Real Estate at the First National Bank of Chicago, then began consulting at Coopers and Lybrand and Gemini Consulting prior to the formation of Shepherd Partners in 1997.
His civic involvement has included the SMU Alumni Association Board of Directors, President of the Houston Chapter of the SMU Alumni Association, Lawrence Hall Youth Services, Servas, and Midtown Education Foundation. He volunteers at the Shedd Aquarium as a diver (he’s had his hand inside a whale’s mouth!), tutored at Adult Literacy Chicago, and volunteers at hospitals and schools with his therapy dog. His hobbies include polo, scuba diving, and photography.
